In the U.S Virgin Islands a very important thing to remember is that we drive on the left hand side of the road. If you choose to rent a vehicle, Budget Rent a Car and Dollar Thrifty are the main rental agencies on island and have a great stock of Jeeps, and other vehicles that are great for exploring around.
Taxis are also a major source of transportation in the islands and can be easily found at the cruise ship docks, airport, downtown Charlotte Amalie, hotels and resorts, and at the main attractions and restaurants located all over the island. If you want a licensed taxi, look for a taxi sign or dome light on the roof. The window signs will indicate whether the taxi is on or off duty and passenger capacity is shown on the fender of the car. Other taxi services are available, but they are not held to the same standards and may not be as safe as the licensed taxis.
There are standardized rates but you will want to verify the rate for your party before embarking on your journey. Be aware that some taxis pick up multiple parties at a time and you may have to wait while others are transported as well.
